A chat with Esther Roberts, junior operations manager

This week on Behind the Scenes we're talking to Esther, our Junior Operations Manager.

Esther joined us in 2021 and has moved from Customer Success Manager to her current role of Junior Operations Manager in under a year!

Who are you and what do you do at Florence?

I’m Esther, I started just under a year ago in the customer success manager role, I worked in a team of two focussing on our northern locations. My role there was account manager for nurses and carers; speaking with workers, solving issues and filling shifts.

Then in November I moved over to operations. My title is now Junior Operations Manager which means I spend a lot of time talking to clients for Rota and Academy, solving issues, listening to feedback and bringing it back to the team.

And also managing information so we can track growth and keep up to date with our clients.

What made you want to join Florence?

Well, actually I didn’t know this until I got here, but I presumed there was a lovely community feel. One of my friends works here and she told me the atmosphere was really amazing so that was a positive to start working here, I found that to be true as soon as I worked here!

Also the fact that it’s helping people in healthcare, working alongside people and talking to people daily was something I wanted to be doing, and the fact that this would involve helping people in healthcare is a bonus.

I was also really drawn to Florence being a tech start up and to be a part of something that’s exciting and growing.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

I think professionally, ‘always tackle the hardest thing first’. I never used to do that until I heard this and it’s something I live by now.

That sigh of relief when you’ve ticked something off your list that’s been on your mind is the best feeling.

The more I live by that the more it becomes second nature.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Florence?

Definitely the people, I have to say. I love the environment, everyone is lovely. Everyone is here to help everyone, it’s so easy to get a job done when everyone is so willing to help.

What’s the biggest challenge Florence is facing at the moment?

It’s growing really quickly which is really exciting. It’s not necessarily a challenge but we’ll definitely need to learn to adapt to the growth and all the changes.

What’s a fun fact about you that might surprise us?

I'm terrified of sharks but they scare me so much that I was intrigued to find out more about them. I went travelling in Central and South America and on one of the islands you could swim with sharks and stingrays, so I did!

I was fine the whole time I was in the water and then the second I was getting out I thought something was going to come up behind me and grab my leg, that’s when I got scared again.

And no; it didn’t combat my fear, I’m still just as scared!

What piece of advice would you give to someone thinking about joining Florence?

That’s a good question. I think keep an open mind and all your options open, Florence is a company where you can grow and move into different departments.

If you work hard and keep your mind open, you don’t know where that could take you. Florence is a great place to grow and has awesome career progression opportunities.

Where do you see Florence in five years?

I see Florence being a household name within healthcare, we’ll be number one in the market in staffing and also as an overall solution to healthcare.
